Robert King - No residence found
Robert King born circa 1815 son of Joseph King, a merchant of Cork. He was educated at Mr Hamblin and Dr Porter’s School, at South Mall, Cork. Scholarship obtained in 1835 and entered Trinity by which time his father was dead. He took Holy orders and was ordained a deacon on 6 Jun 1841 at St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast with letters dimissory for the diocese of Dublin. Curate in Stillorgan by August 1841 and gone by September 1842. He was appointed to Moneymore in November 1842. While in Stillorgan was associated with the Protestant Orphan Society and was a member of the Juvenile Association for the Education of the Deaf and Dumb Poor of Ireland/Claremont Institution. Appointed 1843 to the College of St Columba. He and another colleague resigned from their fellowships at the Stackallen College in April 1846 following a disagreement with the governors. Published ‘Primer of the Church History of Ireland’ and in 1848 published ‘The Irish Church. The Little Red Book of the Holy Catholic Church in Ireland’. He married Harriette Stuart on 19 Aug 1857 at St Anne's Church Dublin. Harriette was the daughter of Rev Alexander George Stuart rector of Killencool, Co Louth. He was appointed headmaster of the Ballymena Diocesan School in 1858 and assistant Curate at Ballinascreen. He was a perpetual curate of Armagh from 1865. They had nine children of whom eleven survived in 1911. The school was in decline by the late 1880s due to an outbreak of typhoid and a lack of masters. They rebranded as The Ballymena Academy with Robert staying on as principal. He died 4 Jan 1900 and was buried at the Old Churchyard, Ballymena.
