Restaurants and all that...

As a child I remember the Church and the area to be a open  space where a carnival or circus would set up every year. I also remember the first restaurant on this site to be The Swiss Cottage which specialised in chicken.

Then in the early to early/mid '80s A chap called John O Sullivan (who at the time owned Flanagan's and Gallagher's in town) opened  Blakes Restaurant and the adjoining Pizza Restaurant. I was a young draughtsman at the time and worked on the project in Waltham Tce Blackrock.

Paddy Shovlin and Paddy Gallagher (who at the time they owned Shields St Stephens Green, now Kylemore and Moore Street)  took it over later and revamped it.

O'Sullivan and Mulcahy went on to open Roly's in Ballsbridge with Chef Cathel O' Daly who at the time owned the Park Restaurant in Blackrock.

Kindly submitted by Declan Melvin

May I wish them every blessing for the next 300 years[I won't be around]!!
I enjoyed thoroughly my time as Learning Support Teacher in St Brigid's during the academic year 1992-1993.  I have very happy memories of the children, the staff and my time there.
Sincerely,
Rita Delaney
