STRINGER - Contribution
My maternal grandparents, William James (Bill) Stringer and Louisa (Lou) Margaret, née Narramore, are both buried in St. Brigid's graveyard. They died in 1978 and 1982 9 83, respectively - I'm afraid I can't remembe which year Gran died. I know she was heading for 92, and Grandpa was 89. My Grandfather was born in Shropshire, in the UK, and worked here as Chief Research Chemist in Guinness's Brewery, doing now famous work on isolating B vitamins during WW2. My Grandmother was born at the Vice Regal Lodge in Phoenix Park as her Father, who came from Devon originally, was Private Secretary to Queen Victoria there. After the Lodge ceased to function, he worked as Head of Catering in Guinness's, and my Grandmother I think worked there in a secretarial capacity as a girl, hence met my Grandfather. I am not sure if they were married in St. Brigid's or not. I would be interested to know.
In 1951 my parents, Margaret Joan (Peggy) Stringer (born July 22, 1920) and William Robert Anthony (Tony) Keller, who was a solicitor and born in Dublin, April 12th, 1918, were married in St. Brigid's on July 18th, with the Rev. Taylor officiating. My Mother's sister, Alda Barbara (Betty) Stringer, born September 30th 1921, married Joseph Cooper (Joe) Stewart from Moate, Co. Meath, in St. Brigid's in summer 1952. I believe I was also christened there - this to please my Grandmother Stringer, as my Father was a Quaker and my Mother tended to prefer his church to the Church of Ireland. Although I was encouraged to follow both churches through my childhood, the Quaker way, which goes right back to 1670 in my Father's Mother's family, the Thompsons from Wexford, won in the end and I belong to Monkstown Meeting. My parents are both buried in the Friends' graveyard at Temple Hill. My Father died June 2nd, 1994, and my Mother December 19th, 2011. My Aunt, Betty Stewart is still living, now in the UK near her two sons, but her husband Joe died in summer 1981.
I hope this information is of interest and helpful to the archives of St. Brigid's.
I wish you every success with the 300th Anniversary celebrations.
